Periodically
the UK Government, and presumably those of the other major powers,
assess the risks of nuclear attack
on the country. Part of this is a classified report by the Joint
Intelligence Committee (JIC). The JIC is an inter-agency deliberative
body responsible for intelligence assessment, coordination and oversight
of the Secret Intelligence Service, Security Service, GCHQ and Defence
Intelligence. The JIC is supported by the Joint Intelligence
Organisation under the Cabinet Office, and meets primarily at 70
Whitehall, in what is commonly known as COBR (Cabinet Office Briefing
Room A.
